Orange Beach Al

What does one think of when hearing the city Long Beach; the diet, the nightlife, the beautiful people? How about the Jazz Festival? The thing about jazz is that it can appeal to many different people since it has roots in several different musical forms. From hip hop to big band to swing or fusion which is jazz rock. This is the only Southern California Jazz Festival and it has more than just great funky music to listen to. Many local artists show off their paintings as well as art from outside the illustrious Long Beach. Held on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the middle of August each year, they boast many famous musicians.

For instance, this year's line up included famous saxophonist Gerald Albright who has performed with many great musicians like Anita Baker, Teena Marie, Les McCann and Chaka Khan. Also on this year's performing list was Jazz Attack out of Los Angeles and Orange County. They have played in many prestigious places such as the Orange County Museum of Art, Art A Affair Festival, Taste of Orange County and many, many others. If you enjoy a more Latin swing to your jazz then you would have enjoyed Pancho Sanchez, a talented conga player. His band plays a varied collection of jazz ranging from Latin to Afro-Cuban. Also, there is the highly touted Jazz Search Contest in which amateur jazz musicians, soloists and groups alike, can show off their talents to all of Long Beach in hopes to become the contest winner.
